Let’s Talk, Photography, Travel and Events

Make your photography stand out.

The classes I teach and talks I give will help you improve your craft in both shooting and editing. What will drive the decisions you make? Go with purpose, vision and intent. A sense of what you want.

Make that the goal.

Don’t you wish you could go to the camera store and ask for a box of inspiration? Maybe a bottle of artistic flare? A little sack of added abilities? That would be great, no? Well, we try to get you motivated to have those things within your grasp.

Let’s Talk Impact in Photography.

An image that captures attention, will have something that has meaning and connection. That can be elusive and difficult to capture. It is the “wow” factor that makes an image have an unforgettable or enviable impression.

Frame after frame, finding meaning and connection is rare. The full power of our photographs is not the special subjects. But rather, the moments we capture. If you need that editing lift, we got you covered with Luminar, Topaz, Photoshop and Lightroom.

It is in what WE bring to our photographs. Change your thinking, and your photography will follow suit.

Let’s TalkCharacter, Context, and Building an Image

So let’s talk context of the place, character of the subjects and place, and a theme or style to your work. If you want to have a personal handprint on your work, you want to have a theme or style. It is a place, a time of the day to shoot, a particular genre or subject, where you begin to develop a recognizable style. That is when you have the perfect combination, the right character with the right context. Your work then takes on an unmistakeable style of your own. Join me down at the waterhole to create a style of your own.

Let’s Talk…Photographing and Editing Wildlife Like the Pros

I am a firm believer of always going more than once to a place, to maximize my ability to really understand a subject or place, the behaviors, and where wildlife might be found. Wildlife photography is being ready to capture a split second, when the light and the animal behavior comes together.  I will teach you ten steps to better wildlife images.

The more you know, the more you will see to photograph. It’s that simple.

These are the most popular presentations I have given, but if you don’t see what you are looking for, shoot me an email from one of the presentations and tell me what direction you would prefer. I have many more presentations, and about five new presentations will be done in 2021.

Let’s TalkNo Messy Backgrounds

It can make all the difference.

View the background as important as the subject. Be intentional. Now there’s a thought! Plan your background to be as important as the subject.

By spending the time to retouch an image, you can focus the viewer's attention where you want it. While getting everything right in camera is the best option, I can help you learn what you need to know.

TIP… I just waited for the impala to leave the herd for a drink. The background was preselected. Eventually the subject will break away. You want your subject more or less isolated. A dust squall in the background gives the image a unique and emotive feel. The background still has prescience, yet is sufficiently blurred into color and form, but not so much so you can still imagine the place. Artists hint at what the background tells the viewer. Learn tricks to make the backgrounds an important part of the story you want to tell.

Let’s Talk …

The Intimate Connection

Getting Eye to Eye

Getting to eye level is one of three techniques I would classify as a must for wildlife photography. Another is ensuring critical focus on the eye, and the second most important, selecting a good background. I will discuss those as well and why all three help to get viewer engagement.

We will look at wildlife subjects big and small, those dangerous to photograph and those from your backyard. There is special attention on photographing birds. Birds are more difficult to find at eye level, but there are tricks to do that.
