The background was preselected. Eventually the subject will break away. You want your subject more or less isolated. A dust squall in the background gives the image a unique and emotive feel. The background still has prescience, yet is sufficiently blurred into color and form, but not so much so you can still imagine the place. Artists hint at what the background tells the viewer.
